The Drummer Magazine Parties at the Trocadero were quite a spectacle. The Troc would be filled with the hottest men around, all in leather, latex and denim regalia for days. The music was intense black party style and the club would be decorated to suit. For the 1980 Drummer party Dick Collier had installed wire fencing, and scaffolding to resemble a construction site. Then pieces of animal carcasses were hung from the scaffold to create an eerie dark atmosphere and suggest the metaphor for a meat market. Even a lavish buffet was laid on (hope it wasn't raw meat!).

This picture and the one following are from the 1980 Drummer Party flier that was mailed out to Troc members, the actual pictures from the night are here. Big thanks to Mike M. for the flier pics.

If you went to the 1980 Castro Street Fair you could get a free shuttle bus to the Trocadero for the Troc's Castro Street Fair Tea Dance. DJ Bobby Viteritti brought the music and Billy Langenheim provided the light.

The Troc, like all dance clubs at that time had a drugs reputation. The owners would turn a blind eye until the authorities would get on to them about it and threaten them with closure. Usually the club owners would then have to portray themselves as being offended and angry that their members are using drugs. Here is a letter reflecting this, notice Dick's "wink" to his members with his closing remark. Picture courtesy of Mike M.

After two years as the Troc's number one DJ, on December 10th 1980 DJ Bobby Viteritti sent out an official letter to let the Trocadero Transfer members know that he was leaving the club's employ. Bobby had set the tone for the way the musical trip was performed at the Troc. DJs Mike Lewis and Craig Morey took up the mantle after Bobby left and did a great job. Even today at Remember The Party events our own brilliant DJ Jerry Bonham is happy to tell us that he is influenced and inspired by Bobby V's excellent and innovative work from that time.
